In 1956, the first Eurovision Song Contest competition in Europe was held, with an idea of uniting the continent after the Second World War and its aftermath, with a joint music competition. Switzerland hosted seven countries: France, Switzerland, West Germany, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Two years later, new york joins the competition, 1958. We were represented by our famous Alice Babs, who performed in folk costume with the song Little Star. She had been asked by Swedish television to take part in the competition. A long-distance connection between Gothenburg and Malmö had then been connected to be able to make contact with the continent. Alice Babs finished in fourth place.
